Where is Cannabis in Rock and Roll!
To my hero's, For over 30 years I have been attending Rock and Roll concerts, festivals, and shows. I have spent unknown fortunes on hi-fi's, stereos, record players, 8-track players, cassette players and CD players. On 45's, albums, 8 tracks, cassettes, and CD's.of people who are amassing fortunes and smoking dope. Yet, what do their songs say about legalizing cannabis. A few novelty singles and a couple albums/CD's and an occasional line or two. But thats about it.
Bobby Dylan, you've been smokin dope as long or longer than most. Where's the Hemp? Where's the sad tales of the mothers and grandfathers sitting and dying in rotten store bought prisons. The dying patients stressed that the doors gonna come down with DEAth goons. Cops threatening jail to women and children, yet where are you.
Joan Baez, where are you. Your cousin was in jail for bootlegging medicine to Americans. I hate China and El Salvadorian tragedies, and are very moved by your music, but there's NO excuse for this silence. Get Peter's cause some help, get all of us some help. Bosnia has tragedy for sure, but What about Will Fosters 93 years for medicinal use, or the murder of Peter McWilliams or the 1.2 million more victims of keeping this competition from korpses markets.
Neil Young, where are you. The farmers could be growing hemp to bale out their own asses, cept they are missled into a driving force behind prohibition, still are you satisfied, now that Canada is growing? Seems every item on MTV is more harmful to society than cannabis. Beavis and Butthead but no Mary Jane? Satanic, Morbid,Anything with Sex is ok. White Powders even get more air play. These mighty warriors fighting in the streets, Jagger and Richards blasting down phony barriers and now can't get past the budweiser commercials. I realize the power of the record labels, the industry shutting Napsters freedom and MTV banning Petty's lyrics for uttering "joint". But the people are suffering on those same korpses profit margins and the silent majority can't be heard in the clutter of words.
Woody ain't singing and Arlo's MCing but no new adventures of Alice to give us a break from the breaks we were getting from the pigs on the street? While the DJ's slam politico's they can't mention cannabis. Smell farts or strip tease for egomaniacal sleeze, but don't say a beep about biomass hempsters driving circles around the korpses crude oil. They plan to drill in every nook and cranny cause now the oil man and Hop along Cheney are riding the saddles again. Now we need a voice, all is silent. Instead singing defense for the out and down freeloaders, victims of fascist classism. Now your sitting in court, suing free downloaders. After all its just a business.
This May 5th is a March against fascism. From the Hanoi Hilton to Moscow to Paris, through the states to Washingstone DC. Pick a place and dust off those ballads, wake up man its time to get your asses out on the stages.
This time putting the Tree of Life in your messages. Again I repeat a year into this new millennium? And too the many, many I've missed, young, old and in between. Cannabis is THE only thing growin, that replaces more things, environmentally safer and less harmful to 100's of items already "approved" by a "government" that makes Johnson and Nixon look like the Grateful Dead, which by the way doesn't bring any cannabis tunes to mind either... So, don't wait for another invitation. This isn't a political battle. Or a medical battle, or a even a fuel or fiber battle. Its rich and poor.
