The Longer We Wait, The Worse it Gets...
If anyones been too enthrolled in all the media fluff pieces in which of the new quacks are going to replace the old lame ducks. Or any of the other burning issues. Then this ain't gonna thrill ya. Its too close to reality. Home Health Assisted Care.
We work and we pay. And we save and we retire. We spend 20 years, God willing. Traveling, cruising, sleeping in, fishing, and then we...?
When we have lived a length of time we start slowing down in the rejuvinations. My opinion is the chemical adulteration of our bodies. Many cases of neurological and psychological impairments. Bone density changes and muscular degeneration. Altzheimers, Hodgekins, Parkinson, MS, Stroke, Heart/Lung Disease. Accidents and dementia can make some serious, overwhelming decisions for the loved ones to deal with. I have seen it many times, we just arnt prepared. With illness come prescription medications. They have Medical Value $$$ But that and Pharmasicians are only a few hundred a week or even month. The big expense is the...
Caremanagement Agencies
The home care facilities have appeared more in the 90s. Private caregiving also. Warehousing is what is left. Usually after the last cruise to Alaska left you budgeted. Or God forbid, you try to exist on social security and Bluecross. Neither of which cover home health aid care, for anything other than shorterm after a hospital visit, ordered by a physician. Other than that it comes our of the families or patients pocket. How much we talkin?
Agencies providing full service care management. Depending on the debility of the patient ranges $15 to $20 an hour. 3 hr.min. $150 to $480 a day. Yes, A day. $55k(+-) to $175k(+ ) a year. Thats usually above the working stiffs retirement plan. Some insurance has surfaced, some spare change thrown by the government and some towns and non profits have occasionaly found funding.
Private caregivers range from family members to networking agents to Certified Nurses AssistantCNA and Home Health Aids HHA. at $8 to $15 an hour. $150 to $250 per day. 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. $55 to $90k . How many years? Some agencies will network and find private care for a fee, usually $1000. And the carehouses. ss if your indigent to whatever you got left. One caregiver assisting 12 to 24 patients per ward. Diaper changing, no time to interact. Straps are usually used for wonderers, sometimes replaced by motion dectors. Forced Shutdowns are still happening occasionally and still needed. Some spring back up warehousing thousands of private citizens who built this country btw, like our domesticated livestock. Intentionally or not. But what are we gonna do?
Some know the realities and some believe the broshures and assume alls well. Its nice during visiting hours. Theres a nurse on duty. Their professionals. Reality, the professionals are earning $4.40 an hour before taxes. It is very rare to find an english speaking, not that that matters, but it does if you want dignity in your remaining days. Simple conversation. Vets are treated the worst. I guess their expected to not complain or rather complain then, strangle in red tape. Private carehomes are always reeking with ammonia. Always a bell or buzzer going off. Not restful, but what else can you do.
Finding your own private care.
Lots a luck. The prices are the same usually. A few do sliding scales and ideas are springing up to solve instances everyday, by the private sector. But not enough and not many places. There are a lot of horror stories we may have heard about with the carehouses, but private home care is something a relative 3 blocks or 3000 miles away had better choose carefully and not just on price.
As bad as the carehouses are, they are supposidly inspected. And requirements by the facility must be met and bonded. Private home care doesnt. You can go to the K-Mart and hire a homeless person. And I try to advocate and assist the homeless so its not that they arnt excellant caregivers, but charging less doesn't qualify one to deal emotionally or professionally with a patient. And many loved ones get a call from a neighbor that God knows whats happening, cops come, furnature gone and dear old dads...
Or try a religious org. or senior centers. But again unless its short term your still going to pay the minimum, they may waive the referral fee, but the caregiver will negociate with the patient or their rep. But its still usually $8/hr. Now we have boomers in 20 years going to be well preserved from all the preservatives weve ingested. And the impairments. With a greater ratio than us to our parents. More cwarehouses? Taxes?
The more elogent and better ratioed facilities are $2800 to $3500 (+-) per month. $35k to $42k.per year. 6 to1 patient to cg ratio. Assit at specific times and on call with the patient haveing a iIve fallen and I cant get up button but not for full assistance. Transfers, meals, etc. And as much as they seem to please, and are unfurnished so you can personalize. When the time comes that full assistace is required they move you into a ward. Theres no place like home. But thats an American issue in itself.
So any ideas from anyone? Gotta start someplace. I know of some people doing sliding scales, but thats only feasible with a tax break. If a private cg. charges $8 per hour. $3 goes to taxes and the CG takes $5. The patient must also pay his part of the taxes, and there are no tax refunds for senior care as for child care expenses. So lets say the patient pays $2 and the cg pays $3. Thats the government for you. I guess this is what they mean by Federally matching funds. The caregiver makes $5, US makes $5 and the patient pays Double what it would cost if the cg. didnt have to pay taxes. And the patient either. But then US wouldnt be in the sick business if it didnt. A multi-gazillion dollar band aid factories and broken glass beaches. Ok too logical. Whatch you smoking boy?
Or working for half pay and double hours, just for the heck of it. I know it wont get you rich but the joy it brings cant be bought. Plenty left for the taking. But how do we get caregivers(cg)? We train them like Red Cross volunteers. The skills are the minimum. Continuous training programs used by agencies and certified programs can be taught to the private sector. Relieving the homeless burden and filling a need.
The bottom line would still leave accountability. That could be private, non profit or lastly governmental. But whats harder than working double hours for half pay is finding someone to do it. This is where the government halting the tax would literally allow seniors the dignity they deserve.
Now you know I aint gonna leave without mentioning fluoridation relating to osteoporosis. This should be considered by seniors especially. But the ion exchange may be taking place in anyone. Filters presently utilized are destroyed by flouoridation corrosion. That corrosion also ionically exchanging from the aluminum pots to the substance then ingested. These metals are afiliated with altzheimers. So vote it out. The mandate 2000 is close. And my other favorite subject may be of assistance to seniors in a few ways.
Hempseed/oil is the most nutritionally complete food source known. If you know about it that is. The closest to a perfect balance of omega 3, 6 and 9 essential fatty acids, efas. Higher protein than anything except flax and soybean. But they dont have the balance and flax is terrible to the soil and soybean is hard to digest. I get hemp oil and butter to build the seniors immune systems to prevent these afflictions. But even more urgently needed is the capitol investment to train caregivers. Uh Ha! I know a place that destroys $400 million stalks of non psychotropic ditchweed each year. Instead of paying to destroy, we pay the same amount to industry to manufacture into thousands of products and we use the profits to train the caregivers...Although if we legalized it then we would have a brand new tax base to maybe support the homeless, seniors, schools, etc. And I know how everybody loves taxbreaks.
